The
political science major is designed to expose students to the philosophical
and practical problems of political organization, action, and governance
and to encourage critical thinking about the nature of citizenship, rights,
and duties in the modern world. The curriculum is divided into three
general areas: theoretical approaches to politics, American institutions
and politics, and foreign and international politics.
Rutgers students have the opportunity to earn credit as they
undertake internships and study the way governments operate as
close to home as their own communities or Trenton, or as far away
as Washington -- or even, as some Rutgers students have
discovered, as far afield as Croatia, South Africa, or Mongolia,
working with Rutgers faculty and in Rutgers-sponsored programs to
help establish democracy around the world.
Rutgers political science majors go on to exciting careers in
government, law, the Foreign Service, international or nonprofit
organizations, and business. Many choose to pursue advanced degrees from other top universities in America and abroad.
