Rutgers Reflects the World “The dynamic nature of America’s state universities takes a vivid energy from the character of New Jersey, with its ever-refreshed ethnic and immigrant mix, its variety of urbanizations and pine barrens - all packed into a small area and held together by a peculiar set of balances. New Jersey is close enough to the city of New York to draw gargantuan energy, but out of the urban belly: longing and revulsion from a little distance are in some ways more poetic than mere presence.” – Robert Pinsky, RC ’62; Poet Laureate of the US 1997-2000
Rutgers Experiences I got lost in the ecological preserve, lost my phone in the Raritan, and found myself never wanting to go home. Write that down.
Clubs and Extracurricular Activities Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity, RUNSO, College Ave Campus Council, InterFraternity Council, Dance Marathon.
Internships Yes, please.
Rutgers Traditions Convocation and Old Queens Gate, the Big Chill, Midnight Soccer, Dance Marathon, visit to the banks, the Running of the Bulls.
Why Rutgers I’m a Jersey guy. In my high school, the Rutgers name suffered from chronic under-appreciation… but there’s something inspiring about the underdog. Rutgers- like New Jersey itself- breeds excellence.
It takes us dusty lumps of coal and squeezes us into diamonds- but it takes plenty of time and pressure. Oh but why did I choose Rutgers? It was the cheapest and my brother was already at Lehigh, so I felt bad for my parents.

A price tag, because I don’t have an iPod. But I’ve been listening to a lot of Say Anything, Big D and the Kids Table, Presidents of the USA, Chili Peppers, and Bosstones.

Walden and Civil Disobedience, Maxim.
