Rutgers: The State University of New Jersey

My Name Is Katrina
One Word That Describes Rutgers
One Cool Thing I have a crazy sneaker fetish. I love old school and new school sneakers. I have a large Converse Chuck Taylor collection and I'm trying to get my Nike Dunk Low collection to match it.
Home State Virginia
Campus Rutgers-Newark
College Newark College of Arts and Sciences
Major Journalism
Grad Date Spring 2008
Post-Graduation Plans I will attend graduate school to get my Master's in Print Journalism.
Rutgers Reflects the World The diversity at Rutgers has given me the opportunity to learn about so many cultures. In one room, just between my six suitemates and myself, there are five different ethnic backgrounds.
Rutgers Experiences One thing I will never forget about Rutgers was the day I moved into my campus residence my freshman year.  The Homerun Team members help the students move in. Rob Tomale, a fellow Scarlet Ambassador, helped me move in and we have been friends ever since. My mom calls him her son. You truly make family ties here at Rutgers.
Rutgers Traditions

The main traditions here at Rutgers are Fall Fest and Spring Fling. They are basically made up of a whole bunch of activities such as karoake, pictures, food, moon bounces, and a lot of free goodies.

Volunteer Experiences Academy Street Firehouse
Clubs and Extracurricular Activities Rutgers University Chorus, Scarlet Truth Gospel Choir
Why Rutgers Rutgers wasn't my first choice, but I knew when I got here it was the right choice because it's in a city filled with so much culture and has some of the best people around. I knew I was home.

I'm of West Indian descent so I play reggae continously, Damien Marley's CD is great. I enjoy rock, so I keep up with All American Rejects, 3 Doors Down, Green Day, Coldplay, and Maroon 5 is fabulous. R&B, Neo-Soul, Blues, and Jazz are my life. Old school and new school, I have it, from Alicia Keys to Musiq Soulchild to Billie Holiday to Otis Redding. And I keep up with the underground, so yea I have the new Nas, featuring Lauryn Hill and Mos Def's "Katrina Clap." Rap music isn't what it use to be, so most of the time I just like the hook or the beat, but no matter the year, Tupac, Biggie, Jay-Z, and Nas will always be supreme. I will always have my Gospel to balance me out, Kirk Franklin will always be played by me, Hero is a must have CD.

I love my poetry, so I'm reading Def Jam Poetry on Broadway, anything by Jessica Care Moore. Tupac's A Rose That Grew From Concrete, I will always read. I also love memoirs, so I'm going through the pages of Finding Fish, Kaffir Boy, and Somebody's Someone. And everyday I rise, I love being with my Bible study, I have to stay true.
