Special Academic Projects As part of my investigative reporting class, I researched and interviewed numerous students and college administration about campus diversity for nearly three months. The article got published in Rutgers' student newspaper, The Daily Targum, as a special feature spread.  I also was recruited to write a third-party college guidebook, now available in main stream bookstores.  This major project took about 6 months to complete, and over 100 students were interviewed as sources. Currently, I intern three days a week at PR Newswire, the leading distributer of press releases.
Rutgers Reflects the World I grew up in an extremely close New York City Italian family. Eating big dinners and knowing everything about one another was a major part of my life.  When I came to Rutgers as an out-of-stater, I feared I wouldn't have that same close knit relationships with other people. I couldn't have been more wrong.  My friends and I began our own "Sunday dinners."  Each week, about ten of us would eat together at the dining hall and catch up.  These people became my family. Sure we don't look alike, but since I've met them, my Sunday dinners don't only involve pasta, they include Persian and Indian cuisines, as well!
Rutgers Experiences As an out-of-stater, my Jersey friends always laugh when I say "cawfee."  Despite the teasing, my accent is the only thing that hasn't acclimated to New Jersey.  Here, I couldn't feel more at home; some family and friends chastised my decision to attend a state university, NOT in my own state, but Rutgers just FIT me.  I wanted a big university with tremendous student culture and I sure got it: football games, Hot Dog Day, the freshman parade down College Avenue, box sales outside the student center, major concerts (Ben Folds just came!) and influential speakers like Seymour Hersh are just a few of the things that Rutgers offers.  But mostly, the best experiences I've had at Rutgers involves the friends I've met.  They are the ones that I will be sitting on porch swings with when I'm 80 years old.  Everyone is amazing here. My professors at SCILS will lean out of their offices and say hi if they see me coming down the hall!

Why Rutgers When I was searching for universities as a high school senior, I applied to Rutgers without knowing about the five campuses and huge student body.  When I finally visited after I was accepted, my eyes almost fell to the floor.  The main reason I ultimately chose to attend Rutgers was because I didn't have to decide between a "country" campus or a "city" campus. It was all here!  At Rutgers, I feel like I've attended five colleges.  I laugh when I arrive at my evening class on Cook, across from the farm, after spending the day in a high-rise building at my internship in Manhattan.  I love that there's a bunch of dining halls, gyms, classroom buildings. I even love the big red buses that take me there!  As a born and bred city girl, I only saw myself at a big university. A smaller school would have bored me the first week!
