Hi I’m Tori and welcome to my blog. I’m originally from Cranford NJ (about 20 minutes from campus) but for the last six years I’ve lived in Lebanon, NH (more than 20 minutes from campus). I’m really happy that I moved back home for college, and my grandparents still only live 20 minutes away so I can get away anytime I want and see them (and do laundry and shopping).
Moving in was not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. We parked right in front of Stonier and unloaded all of my stuff and helpers came and carried it to my dorm (my Mom said I would finally have to do things for myself in college, well I showed her), I unpacked and organized everything. I have way more space than I thought I would and while my dorm room isn’t totally ‘me’ yet, I think I’m getting close. I would just like to say that Stonier is probably the best dorm in New Brunswick, I don’t want to brag but I’m just going to say we have an air conditioner and our own private bath. While the bathroom is small believe me it’s better than sharing with twenty other girls. I mean I feel kind of bad, my best friend is stuck in a built up triple sharing two showers with twenty girls at UNH and I’m here (oh well).
My roommate and I get along very well, her name is Kylie and she’s from Dunellen, before school started I was really nervous we weren’t going to like each other I almost had an anxiety attack. Now that we’re here and settled all my fears have been assuaged. Well we disagree on one thing, I like it really cold at night and she doesn’t but we keep it comfortable enough for the both of us (at least I think we do, I’m fine). Speaking of that she just walked into the room and said I’m freezing. So I think that if the only thing we ever disagree on is the temperature we’ll be fine. The first few days were a little hard, I wasn’t sure how to meet people and what to say, but eventually you just go up to people and start talking. A key to success is to go out. You’ll never make friends if you sit all alone (even if your with your roommate) in your dorm, go out explore, Rutgers is a huge place and there’s always something going on.
Something else that was easier than I thought it would be was the busses. They’re really easy to navigate and learn, the only thing is when you try to get on let us say the EE at 3, you will be smushed like a sardine. Nevertheless the bus system is really good here (and necessary, do not come here if you don’t want to get on a bus), and there’s a ton of information online if you’re confused. Something else amazing about the bus system, NextBus, you just log on and figure out when the next bus you want is coming, I find this amazing for my 8:40 expos class, I do not have to be outside a minute before I have to.
Speaking of Expos, I’ve only had two classes so far so I’m not an expert but I don’t think it’s going to be as bad as the rumors. Yes, it is an intense class but I think that if I just put enough time aside to read and write I’ll be fine (if someone mentions this in five weeks when I’m freaking out I will find you and I will hurt you). I think I may be taking on a little too much this semester I’m enrolled in seven classes, It doesn’t seem that bad yet but it’s only the second week, but I’m a big girl so I think I can handle it.
The only really terrible thing that has happened to be this first week was the fact Kylie and I don’t have a TV. Nope, I’m kind of dying without one. It’s a good thing my family is coming down from New Hampshire this weekend and saving us!
Well I have to go hope you come back for a blog later in the week.
