Since I've last posted, Rutgers Camden-ites attended Coney Island Night, Tubing Down the Delaware River, a Luau, Outdoor Movie Night (the Hangover), Camden BBQ and more. Unfortunately, like a kid who ate too much candy, I spent most of the weekend sick. Luckily, come Monday I felt better and on Wednesday I attended the Clubs, Organizations & Local Businesses Fair. I spent an hour there getting you the low down (is that outdated slang already?) on some of the groups at Rutgers Camden.
Before I start my report though, I would like to suggest you pick up Rutgers Camden's school newspaper, The Gleaner. Why? It's a great paper made by Rutgers Camden's very own students, including yours truly. I wrote a comic for the current issue, and they put a little spotlight about me in it. Don't worry, my ego remains intact.
Also, I read the New York Times on September 5 and happily came across a not so happy article called "Jobless, Sleepless, Hopeless" about some research Rutgers did on the unemployed's state of being.
Okay, now on to the fair!

Our local businesses that attended included Personalized Greeting Cards! I believe these were free. T-Mobile was also there with phones that were not free.
TO THE FLOOR:
The Gleaner- I headed here first to meet the new Editor-In-Chief, Liz Celementz. Liz and the rest of The Gleaner staff feel look forward to revitalizing the paper. If you attend Rutgers Camden and want to send The Gleaner a submission, need some help in doing so, want to attend a meeting, etc. go contact gleaner@camden.rutgers.edu .
Black Student Union AKA the BSU- This club's for everyone, and I'm glad. They throw events on Campus like Back 2 baiscs on September 17, 2009 with DJ WALLAH hosted by PR DAROCKSTAR, which a bunch of schools can attend. The group also informed me about plans for a pre-Kwanzaa celebration, community service, fundraising, and other activities on and off campus. If you're interested, you can find them on Facebook.

Game Day Live- These guys brought Rock Band to the fair! They have two X-Boxes, a Wii, and are budgeting for a PS3. They meet 10AM-7PM on Fridays in the viewing room of the campus center. Even if you do not consider yourself a hardcore gamer, at least you can kill some time between classes with them on Fridays.
Economics Society- In this group, students interested in Economics can meet, socialize, and hold discussions about Economics. Started last February, the club plans to host guest speakers, take trips, and publish an economic journal.
SGA- "We're awesome, and we're going to do big things" said Sean M Brown, Vice President. The SGA knows the issues and is ready to makes Rutgers Camden a better place. They meet every other Monday starting September 14 and can be contacted at rucsga@camden.rutgers.edu .
Big Brothers, Big Sisters- I passed by the table before the representatives arrived, but Big Brothers, Big Sisters allows students to spend one lunch hour a week with an elementary school child, and make a difference in their lives by talking and befriending them. For more information email csantiago@bbbsbcg.org
Marketing Association- These guys and girls were enthusiastic, and had cupcakes! Past events they hosted include a diabetes fundraiser, an Urban Women's Center food drive, a bowling competition, a field trip to the Kimmel Center, a March of the Dimes Walk, Camden Angels Sock Drive, Goodwill Clothing Drive, and presentations from representatives hailing from companies such as Red Bull, the Philadelphia Flyers, Target, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Procter and Gamble, and more. Their first meeting will be September 17 during free period in BSB 106. "Free Food and drinks will be served"- The flier. That means go guys, go.
Rutgers University School of Business Accounting Society- Open to all majors, this group's events include: guest speakers, industry experts, and faculty coordination. Activities include: Fundraising, outreach, and community events. You can visit them online here. Their next meeting is September 15 in BSB 106.
NJPIRG AKA the New Jersey Public Interest Research Group- Want to fight global warming? Help the homeless? Try to get better financial aid for New Jersey students? NJPIRG takes volunteers and interns. Interning with NJPIRG can count for up to 3 credits, and is done on a semester by semester basis. You can go visit them at www.NJPIRGstudents.org .
Democrat Club- The brand new Democrat club intends to reach out to the community, host guest speakers from the area, debate, and hold a food drive.
College Republicans- The College Republicans seem quite excited to debate the Democrat club about issues such as the New Jersey election. I personally can't wait for these debates! The College Republicans will also host guest speakers.
Living Branch Ministries- I did not get a chance to talk to this group, but they're here. Maybe another time...
Jewish Student Union- This club's back! You can email rachpow@camden.rutgers.edu if you want to recieve information regarding their meetings.
WCCR AKA our Radio Station- Okay, my bias will start showing here. I love podcasts (they're like radio shows for your MP3 player) and broadcasting in general. On September 16, the station holds it's first meeting. Come, learn how to use the equipment. They're looking for DJs, radio shows, and anything else fit for free form radio. They host events, interview bands, and recieve free music.
French Club- They host some conversational meetings, are open to everyone, talk about difference cultures touched by French Imperialism, and had the DVD case for "Moulin Rouge" on their table. They meet every Tuesday, starting September 22 in the Fine Arts Room 204. Visit them online at www.freewebs.com/rufrench/, which is the best URL yet. "R U French"--I wonder if they did that on purpose?

Art Students League- These guys and girls love art, music, and theatre. They hold monthly design contests of buttons and t-shirts, and then sell them to fundraise. Above, I have a picture of some of these buttons and their art magazine that comes out in the spring. They take bus trips too. Fall means New York, Spring means DC. The group also meets with alumni for advice and networking.
Pre-Law Society- The Pre-Law Society hosts 6 Big events: 4 have lawyer as speakers, one has a law school admissions officer speaking, and at another Kaplan comes to talk about LSATs. They also host movie nights and mock trials. Their first meeting is September 17, 2009, at an unspecified location. Well, it's "To Be Announced", but we both know what sounds better.
Jumpstart- In this program you can volunteer for 15-20 hours a week to work with a pre-school child on reading, writing and social skills. You recieve an education award of $1000, earn course credits, and inspire children. Some students came to my Introduction to Childhood Studies today and talked about their great experiences with Jumpstart.
English Students Organization-
Poetry readings
A magazine and some parties
They serve you good food
I hoped you liked my Haiku about the English Students Organization. One can find the aforementioned literary magazine at www.writersblocmag.org They come in second for best URL, first for best website design. Oh, and they have a blog, but it's not as good as this one: http://rutgerseso.wordpress.com/
Honors Student Organization- Open to anyone, they're going to the Renaissance Faire, hosting a costume ball, traveling up to New Brunswick for a football game, cooking for the Ronald McDonald House, and more.
Catholic Christian Fellowship- Anyone can join, they hold Cahtolic services on campus, feed the homeless, and more. Meetings are Wednesdays at 8pm. They gave me a lot of contacts. Here's a father: Father Mike McCue at michaelmccueosfs@aol.com, and here's a student- Jennifer Baciu jenbaciu@camden.rutgers.edu Trivia: This organization was formerly called the Newman Club
Okay, that's it for right now. I probably overlooked some groups, and for that I sincerely apologize. If you want me to rectify the situation, you can email me at jrubinov@camden.rutgers.edu . A bunch of Sororities and Fraternities also attended the fair, but I didn't have time to pay them a visit.
Good night, internet!
