This week I learned that there are a few things that one should not be without in a dorm room. Number one a TV, especially if you love to watch TV like myself. Number two, a Swiffer, our dorm room floor was so disgusting, we were actually embarrassed when people came into it because their feet would get black. Number three, a printer, yes there are computer labs and libraries, but let’s be honest I do not want to walk to them to print off all my stuff.
I actually spent the weekend away from Rutgers for the first time and spent some time with my family. I decided that while I was with them I may as well go shopping, I think it makes for great family bonding time. I got one of the Swiffers with the wet pads so it also doubles as a mop. When I got back to the dorm Sunday and washed the floor, twice because it was so disgusting, I couldn’t even believe we lived in that mess. I also got a duster because my dorm got very dusty very quickly, and I did not want that to get out of control. I spent about three hours Sunday evening cleaning my room, hey it had to be done. My mom brought me my TV from home and I was able to enjoy the MTV Music Awards. The printer is also a life saver. If you have to it’s not too bad to walk and print something, I just find it much easier to have a printer handy in my room. A few other things I got for my room that I think are handy are, thumbtacks, scotch tape, flowers (it makes the room a little more homey), candy (not healthy but delicious), and some extra food. I got these Velveta easy macs that are so delicious, some soup, and lots of granola bars. I just think it’s good to have some food in my room in case I don’t want to go to the dining hall one night.
On Saturday I didn’t go to the football game but went to the Yankees game! The new stadium is so amazing. My friend described it as, “the Las Vegas of baseball stadiums” and I think that it was the perfect way to sum it all up. I was only away from the campus for the weekend but I really missed it. It’s odd that I’ve only been here for two weeks and I’ve become so accustomed to it. When I got back on Sunday I was really excited to unpack all my new stuff and be back at Rutgers!
