I must admit, I felt pretty scared going into my first college Biology Lab. When I arrived, I sat down to a pretty quiet, but small room.
However, once the Teacher Assistant's arrived and started talking, I felt better. The TA who spoke to us, Matthew, made it clear he was there to HELP us and loved answering questions. Good for him, because he answered plenty of questions. There were only 12 students in the lab, which made the class a 1:6 instructor to student ratio, which cannot be beat. There were enough kids so that we did not feel like the teachers hung over us, but also a small enough number of students so that we recieved the attention we needed.
Today we dealt with compound and disecting microscopes. We examined objects like potato, silk, elodea, and cheek cells. The environment was one of relaxed learning and experimentation so we could move on later to use the microscopes on bigger and more complex specimens.
There's Rutgers bowling tonight, but I think I'm going to study tonight so I can go to club meetings this week. That's all I really have to say right now. I just wanted to share my excitement and relief about this Biology 101 lab!
