Instead of making a generic list of "study more" (which, by the way, I think is not humanly possible than what I am already doing) or "meet new people," I decided to compose a list of quirky things I want to do before winter break rolls around. Let's make this fall semester an absolutely awesome start to the college experience!
1. Try every dining hall, so when you declare your favorite-- you can justify your claim. Every Rutgers student knows Neilson is the best; people from other campuses commute over here just to eat. However, I've been postponing my trek to the Livingston dining hall, with good reason thanks to all the rumors about Tillet. So, technically, I can't say Neilson is the best without trying all the others. By the way, Neilson is pronounced nelson.
2. Attend a RU football game. Many of the games are on Saturday, which unfortunately, is the day I work. It's a pity too because I would go all out with facepaint, cheering, chanting...
3. Go to Homecoming. I still don't really understand what homecoming is because my high school never had anything like it. But it seems fun! Oh hey, if anyone wants to explain homecoming to me... feel free to comment.
4. Have at least one professor know me. This is possibly the most challenging goal of all because it is incredibly, ridiculously hard stand out in a lecture hall of more than 100 students. And three of my classes have more than 100 students. I'm still trying to make those office hours, but most are on different campuses and/or clash with my schedule. Professors just seem like really interesting people, but it's hard to get to know them.
5. Read by Passion Puddle. I just feel like I should look like one of those people on brochures for an hour or two. With the sun shining down, breeze going through the trees, smiling as I read a chemistry textbook.
6. Be a part of the Scarlet Day of Service -- which is a day when RU students do volunteering and community service work. RU SPIRIT!
7. Conquer the expos monster. I know I said I would keep this list with non-academic goals. But I promise, this really is a personal goal. I will not be defeated by Expos.
8. Go to more Bhakti meetings. During the involvement fair, I joined a Bhakti Yoga club. It's the most peaceful and encouraging environment-- and totally my niche. We have vegan cooking workshop, yoga sessions, and discussions. If you're interested, check out the Rutgers Bhakti website.
9. Explore College Ave. The heart of Rutgers always has something going on! My friend and I have a goal to eat at a different restaurant every two weeks. Last week we went to Edo, a Japanese/Korean restaurant on Easton Ave. And we got Bubble Tea from I's Cafe! There are so many places to explore.
10. Visit the Cook farm again. During the summer orientation for Project SUPER, we went to see the animals at the farm. They are so adorable! The farm has horses, cows, pigs, the cutest baby piglets ever, chickens, sheep... seriously, what other college just has a farm on a campus? In the city of New Brunswick?! How awesome is it to drive down a highway and see a cow?
