Rutgers Association Of Filipino Students presents HALO-HALLOWEEN 2009

by System Administrator 18. October 2009 12:39

Hey readers and colleagues! I'm writing this from home. I had a pretty long week and I'm glad I got to sleep in my own bed last night to recharge. But of course, I don't get off that easily...I'm leaving for Rutgers again in about three hours, and then I have Verse|One practice until 12.

So, as the title implies, I'm going to talk about last night's Halo-Halloween, as presented by RAPS.  Since I was performing with V|1 Dance Troupe, I had to show up at about 1 for tech rehearsal. Even though we were performing, we had to pay $5 - but it was okay, because all the proceeds are going to Kamay at Puso, a charity that helps communities in the Philippines. I actually wouldn't have minded paying the full $10, but whatever...about tech... We had to change up a few things in our routine because of the size of the stage, but overall we had a successful practice - as usual. After we were finished teching, I went to pick up my best friend Perry who came up to visit. Being a good friend, I took him to Busch for some tasty goodness haha. I would have taken him to Nielson, but we didn't have time because I had to be back at the student center by 6PM.

When we got to the RSC, I got one of those annoying bracelets and some permanent marker to show that I was paid for and ready to rock.

Then, I went to enjoy some delicious Filipino food! I knew what most of it was, but I never had the highlight of the evening...Halo-Halo.

V Ice + red beans + condensed milk + jack fruit + other sweets = YES v

Just mix it all up and you were ready to go! I thought it was really good. Since the show didn't start until 7 and Verse|One wasn't on until 8, I killed some time reading Balita, the RAPS newsletter. I liked it a lot. And then the horror story started.

"Verse|One, you're on after this act."

Me and some of my friends promptly started hyperventilating. However, the older members of V|1 were calm and explained to us that if we just give it our all, even our mistakes will look good. Just keep dancing if you DO mess up, though. I agree, because in any performance, if you make a mistake and then stop, then everyone will be able to figure out that you messed up. Don't stop! By the way, the  act before us was a band called Katja. They were really good, and they did an awesome cover of Paramore's "When It Rains" for their final song. And then...it was time for us to go. St back, relax, and enjoy our show!

^ Personally, I thought we did great...what do you think? ^

After our performance were three more (amazing) musical performances - one by Joreen & Co., who did a tear-jerking song in Tagalog (Filipino language) called "My Only Treasure" and a great cover of "Never Say Never" by The Fray. Next was a musical group composed of Greggie, Giselle, and Jed (no name...oh well). And after them went a talented singer named Dylan (VERY talented!). Before I had to leave to catch the train, I was able to catch RAPS Cultural Dance Troupe (RCDT), who gave me a taste of the dance culture in the Phillipines. Overall, I had a great night and I love my V|1 family even more for going through our first performance together! I see a great year ahead of us.

v Our hosts, Elmo and Cookie Monster (it was epic, trust me) v
