Problem Solving and Fun Friday

by System Administrator 21. November 2009 12:32

As I read my fellow bloggers' posts about scheduling, I grew very jealous. All they had to do was choose the schedule they wanted and press a button? I had to run around campus for at least two hours total to get prerequisite overrides since my transfer credits were not put into the computer. Even my AP test score which was sent out sometime in July never made it onto my transcript. However, there's a great quote I found in a profile on the Rutgers Alumni Career Network:

"Be assertive, not agressive."

And so, I walked around campus, from office to office, from person to person, getting my prerequisite overrides and tweaking my schedule. Everyone I talked to was nice and as helpful as possible. I still don't know who dropped the ball on my credits, but I don't really see the necessity of blaming anyone. Right now, I have the schedule I wanted, so I'm happy.

I probably deal with Rutgers administration more than the average student because I had to transfer a couple of classes, make sure the cafeteria had food I could eat with my dietary restrictions, and try to fix a living situation with dorm mates who seem to think it's okay to do things like spit out gum into the shower or leave their coffee in the coffee maker until islands of mold start to grow. Whether talking to dining services, transfer services, or residential services I find being assertive and nice the best way to please all parties involved.

Here's my awesome schedule by the way:

Now onto fun friday.

Last night, the Honors Student Organization made it's triumphant return to the Ronald McDonald House. Grilled cheese, cheese and ham sandwiches, soups, salad, and a whopping 3 batches of cookies were served. Then, we were off to The Loft, in Audobon, New Jersey. A funny part about going to Rutgers Camden is that you're constantly learning about new cities in New Jersey that you have never heard of before.

Welcome to Audubon.

So, what brought us to The Loft? A director of the Honors College, Bobby Emmons, performed with his band, The Edison Proposal, to celebrate the release of their new album. It was a great show, at a really fun venue. The Loft was small and intimate enough to play Connect 4 at (people seriously did), but also gave the audience enough space to enjoy the music. At one point, I was feeling the music so much I wished I had my bass with me so I could jam. I loved that The Edison Proposal had a horn player, because I think it gives their music a dramatic edge.We were planning on seeing a movie after the concert, but 4 bands played, and we did not have time.

That's all for now. Congratulations to the Edison Proposal (pictured above) on releasing their new album!
