The Glory of Winter Break

by System Administrator 3. January 2010 09:09

Hi all,

I apologize for disappearing for a bit, but this semester took a lot out of me so I needed some time to recharge. I spent this break a mere 25 minutes from Rutgers Camden, traveling around the area. A big advantage of living around here is that I am close to so many diverse, fun places. Here are the highlights of my travels:

Lucky Strikes, Philadelphia- I love Philadelphia and it's only 10 minutes away from Camden by train. It's a great city that I find very friendly. There's a lot to do in the city, but I went to a swanky bowling alley called "Lucky Strikes" with a friend. There was an actual decent restaurant, a bar, and bowling lanes with couches to sit on in between turns. As you bowled, artwork was projected above the lane.

Maryland-It took my family around 3 hours to get to Maryland from our house, but that includes the time we spent trying to find a McDonald's that was open on Christmas because my little brother wanted Chicken Nuggets. Eventually we found some at an open rest stop.

I was born in Maryland and consider the state a second home. While there, my family and I attended a Christmas party and I ate all the food. Oh, and I talked with old friends.

New York- I also love New York. I visited more old friends, hit the West Village, hit the East Village, watched NYU students wearing really big boots play hand games in the middle of Washington Square Park, and ate the best, freshest dumplings I ever tasted. I only stayed one day, but I do visit New York relatively often since it's around 2 hours from my house and I adore Broadway shows, the neat shops, culinary wonders, and the great mix of people and places. I did not see any celebrities during my stay, but some of my friends saw Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick.

Right now, I'm home and MY break ends tomorrow. Why? I'm taking a Winterim course: Introduction to Philosophy.  I still have not decided if taking a Winterim Class makes me crazy or not. I will be learning an entire semester worth of information in two weeks. My class starts at 6:00 PM and ends at 9:40 PM. I read 6 out of 8 chapters of the Philosophy book so far, and sometimes it gets overwhelming. However, I believe I will finish before class starts tomorrow. I will let you know more about winter class experience soon. So far, there has only been one class  that I attended on December 23. It consisted mainly of introductions.

I am going to go knock out another Philosophy chapter before lunch. I hope everyone is enjoying their break and the new year. Here's to 2010!

Hellooo! Hope you're having a good winter break.

I hear Rutgers has one of the best philosophy depts so I'm definitely interested in taking a philosophy class next year. Tell me how it goes Laughing

(And you are so motivated to take a class. I'm hibernating most of the day and being totally unproductive)

Hey Jenn!  So how goes break?  What's the campus like for winter session-- besides iced over this hellishly cold season?  Keep us in the loop, please.  And you wanna share best and worst classes info?  In New Brunswick, worst seems to have been Expos-- even for those who enjoyed it.
