Three Types of Labs, A Politician, and Some Lounges

by Jennifer R. 26. January 2010 07:20

I'm up early today, so I figured I would get some blogging in. It is only week two, but already the campus booms with activity. Today, for instance,Dave Mayer,Gloucester Township mayor and Rutgers Camden alum, will speak at Rutgers Camden. I cannot attend the talk, however, because I will be in...A neurology laboratory!  I am so excited that the day I received the invitation last week I went straight to the laboratory, a week early. Whoops! Well, today's the day and I cannot wait. It just goes to show that if you reach out to professors at Rutgers who share your interests they may help your pursue your goals.

Speaking of labs, now that I'm taking a Spanish class I need to go to the language lab for two hours a week. Listening to Spanish for two hours on a computer is not ideal for me, but one can split up the time into more manageable chunks. I put in nearly two hours yesterday, and need to go back for around ten minutes before the week is over. Here is a picture from the lab:

>The saving grace of going to Language lab yesterday was the fact that it brought me down to the basement of Armitage Hall, where I found a bunch of Psychology laboratories. Every school day students attend classes at Armitage Hall. Little do they know researchers work diligently right below them. Rutgers Camden is a research university and has the facilities necessary to investigate all sorts of quandaries.

Also, this week I also received the position of Media Consultant for the Health Reform Campaign mounted by NJPIRG.  I am very excited to use my skills to advertise and promote the cause. Campaigning for health reform definitely hits close to home for me.

On a lighter note, I snapped some quick pictures of two places little places students hang out at Rutgers Camden: the newly renovated student lounge, and some fun couches.

I also wanted to show you a different perspective of Rutgers Camden. My friend Anna is participating in a 365 days of photography initiative. She takes a picture a day that describes her life. Since she lives at Rutgers Camden, she takes some really excellent pictures of Campus. I asked her permission to post her Deviant Art page here. Definitely go check her page out to get an idea of the difference between the Camden stereotype and the actual Rutgers Camden.

That's all for now!

I love those Rutgers couches.  I wish I could get them for my house.  Rutgers-Camden has some really nice student lounges.
