It's not even mid-semester and I already find myself drinking excessive amounts of caffeine, and shutting myself in my room, which I have deemed "my cubicle" for hours including late nights and weekends. I cannot say I am happy with this lifestyle, especially since I've already boosted my time management methods since last semester. However, I'm going to try to take my time management a few steps further and do the following:
1. Study while working out- This option has been in the back of my head for a while, but I've resisted because working out is hard as it is. But, I will begin to try to do some of my more pleasant readings during my cardiovascular time.
2. Study in new places- Some people think you should have one location that is your study place, and serves no other purpose. I have tried this. Eventually, I get bored in the study place and find ways to procrastinate. I find that when I study in different places that I have not developed procrastination techniques in, I get more done, more quickly. So I will scour the library for quiet corners.
3. Plan something fun- Working for days straight has been leaving me sluggish, and sometimes without motivation. Hopefully, a fun activity will force me to get my work done in time to do fun activity and feel refreshed afterwards.
4. Limit virtual communications to certain times- I'm going to limit my virtual communications (email, facebook, text messages) to first first thing in the morning (breakfast), and dinner. I do eat with my laptop generally, because I can watch Television shows on Hulu.com. They have all of LOST on there right now, and I'm loving it.
Strategies I'm already using
1. Planner
2. Consistent sleep schedule
3. Prioritizing
4. Exercising
These may seem Draconian, but I want to further separate my work time from my fun time; mainly because my work time has been devouring my fun time. I will let you know how these changes help or hurt my college life next week.
In other news, I cut out a pig's heart Monday, became a Q-STEP chairperson Wednesday, went to the Neuro lab also on Wednesday, enjoyed a well attended, productive GSA meeting Thursday, launched a Virtual Letter Writing Health Care Reform Week also on Thursday and my professor cancelled class on Friday.
Here's the Facebook link to our letter writing campaign, please join.
I'm going back to work now. Hopefully, this week will run more efficiently than the former and I will have some time to get out and have fun.
