Happy Monday, everyone!
Today I'm going to take a break from talking about nothing and talk about something we all know about - good ol' somniloquy, aka sleep-talking. I've been told that I exhibit this disorder from time to time, so I figured that I would do some research on it.
First of all, somniloquy is a type of parasomnia, or sleep disorder. Usually, it occurs durin Non-Rapid Eye Movement (NREM) sleep. Have you ever thought you were falling and totally have a spaz attack that wakes you up? That usually happens during the first part of NREM, and is scientifically known as a Hypnagogic Jerk. As you fall deeper into NREM, you may have very boring and not very memorable dreams, or exhibit some type of parasomnia. Talking in a dream out loud shows that the somiloquy occured during Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep.
A lot of children go through this (about 50%), with most of them losing it after puberty. Or, like me, still doing it. However, this is not to be confused with pavor nocturnus, aka Night Terror, when you freak the f*** out while you're sleeping, or Rapid Eye Movement Behavior Disorder (RBD), when you freak the f*** out to the point that your body actually starts doing whatever you're doing while you're dreaming. Add any of these to snoring and you have a pretty annoying roomie. But hey, show them some love! Obviously, you can't really control things like this.
Remember guys...ignorance isn't bliss! It's ignorance.
