We should definitely throw a welcome party to all the new selected Rutgers student bloggers! The applications were very interesting, and I can't wait to meet you all in person. The competition was intense, and sadly, not all of my favorites were chosen (I tried my best to fight for you to get in, I did!). But for those who weren't selected, do not despair! Make your own blog/twitter/tumblr/etc to document your first year at Rutgers instead! Seeing how I evolved from a clueless freshman to a rising sophomore who can't wait to move back to Rutgers in August... well, there's nothing like it.
So, congratulations to the newly chosen bloggers. I can't wait to read about your first year at RU. Since we were the pioneers on the unknown RU blogging territory, we didn't have any foundation, set expectations or models. But I really hope you all take it to the next level and add your own spin on it in the upcoming semester.
What I learned about student blogging:
1. Photo logs of an experience make a strong impact.
2. Take pictures of the campus... as in lecture halls, dining halls and food, dorm, and scenery (these will probably be fun to reflect upon when you're 60 years old!)
3. Attend more campus-wide guest lectures and events that are outside of your field of study. You'll meet people and learn ideas that open your mind for more insightful blogging.
4. Take more videos and learn video editing!
5. Basically, have fun with it.
Hang out with Lee the blogging coordinator. <3 She's awesomeee. (Lee, you obviously like me more than David, right? I am so nice to you on the blog unlike... :P)
And befriend the other bloggers so you guys can go eat, grab coffee and talk about Rutgers!
I would also like to thank all the super nice people who wrote really heartwarming comments that said they enjoyed the blogs. :) That feedback was the best part of blogging.
