The reason i've been waiting to get this done...

...is that i really wanted to find out the results of my choir audition! But before we get to that...

Hi, my name's Dave. i'm a freshman living in Quad II on Livingston campus (we don't need no stinkin' air conditioning!) and i'm a part of Rutgers Business School and SAS Honors, planning a Marketing major and a Music minor.

Now that those formalities are out of the way, let me fill you in on the first two weeks of college.

My first night (Friday the 27th) I hung out with my neighbors and one of my orientation leaders, Cody (he's a boss). We went to his house on Richardson Street and only realized after leaving at midnight that the buses had stopped running. So us four guys ended up walking five to six miles from the College Ave campus back to our dorms on Livi. REALLY FUN FIRST NIGHT. That twilit walk eliminated any calories I'd built up from eating a fat sandwich at RU Hungry (so maybe they're bad for you, but the part that no one mentions is that they're REALLY GOOD).

The next few nights were spent getting to know people at a house on Union Street (more commonly known as Frat Row). I basically spent all of Saturday through Tuesday at Delta Phi, the oldest fraternity in the country. The brothers are really chill and I got to know most, if not all, of them. They want me to rush; I'm probably going to pledge second semester depending on my workload.

Speaking of workload, we should discuss my schedule. My courses include the following:

+Intro to Existentialism: an in-depth study of select works from Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, Heidegger, Sartre, and Camus. Probably my favorite form of philosophy.

+Honors Intro to Microeconomics: self-explanatory. i love the small class size (did i mention my largest class this semester is less than fifty people? i got LUCKY).

+Music Analysis: a course that teaches you how to break music down - note by note, triad by triad - and see why it all works out so well. Studying Chopin, Borodin, etc.

+Second-Year Russian for Russian Speakers - my most daunting course. I was raised on Russian, but my grammar is AWFUL.

I lucked out because every one of my classes is on College Ave... so I don't even have to rely on the bus system that much. Not to say that it sucks - it doesn't, by any stretch of imagination - but I like using my own two feet.

What am I doing in my spare time, you ask?

This is what happens after a shot of Five Hour Energy. I climb really, really tall trees.

A few friends and I before a party. Guess I had to be that guy, huh?

This morning I found out I made the cuts for RUGC (Rutgers University Glee Club). NOTHING LIKE THE SHOW, PROMISE. but if you want to hear what one of the top men's choirs in the world sounds like, enjoy this piece we performed in Dresden a few years back (Eric Whitacre is my FAVORITE choral composer, btw).

One more thing: I plan to start a freerunning club. THAT IS ALL. Later! _Dave

Hey Dave,

I can already tell I'll love reading about your adventures. I also suck up the heat in my dorm but at least it's cold now haha. Good luck to the new (but not yet full) school week!

Great pix, Dave.  And we have to get together to get you a flip.  Meanwhile, the Russian-Existential connection intrigues me-- but have you also noticed there are never any Russians in the "existential canon?"  If you need a copy of Being and Time, let me know: Heidegger was at best deeply flawed but a cogent thinker. Kiekregaard is perhaps sadder but my favorite of the bunch.
