AHH so I’m finally home. H.O.M.E...Home. Labor Day weekend was the PERFECT opportunity to sit back, relax and put my feet up. While other people were on facebook complaining about how much they missed the fast-paced, high life of excitement that being at Rutgers allowed them, I decided to compile a list of things that I missed about home. While these things might seem trivial to some, they really mean a lot to me. These are things that I didn’t know I missed. So....without further adieu...
Melissa's Super-spectacular list of things she misses (and loves) about being home!!!
1) My own bed- You don’t realize exactly how small twin XL beds are till you sleep in your own bed
2) Silence- At Rutgers, the noise is constant. There is perpetual buzz that you get used to until it is shut off
3) Home-cooked meals- yeah, yeah, yeah Neilson is great and all but it has nothing on my mom's meatloaf
4) TV- more specifically TiVo... i missed so much tv and used being home as a chance to sit back, paint my nails and catch up on True blood. (Rutgers should REALLY consider adding HBO to their line-up)
5) Brother's guitar- before I left I found his constant noodling and strumming a little annoying, but once I came back, I considered his own variety of background noise as a soundtrack worthy of a Grammy
6) Security- aside from the door to my house, I LOVED not having to worry about the money on my dresser, or my laptop in the living room.
7) Air conditioning- as we all know, this "fall" has been painfully hot. It was refreshing to step into a cool house.
8) Cereal- again, I know that the dining halls offer cereal, but the smell of pancakes and sausage dissuaded me from that little fact. Being home allowed me to dive head first into the box of cinnamon toast crunch. Guilt. Free
9) Showers- minus the flip-flops. Enough said.
10) Driving- yeah, The buses are ok at best, but sitting in the car, window down, music pumping is the best feeling in the world. (Plus regardless of the time of day, I ALWAYS had a seat)
11) Family- I missed all of my family. I missed the inside jokes, the dinners, overall just the feeling you get when you are HOME
All in all, I loved being home. It was an eye-opening experience that I hope I will never take for granted. By the end of the weekend, yes, I was looking forward to being back at Rutgers, but the first thing I did when I got back to my room was to mark down when I will be going home once again. Till then, my mom’s meatloaf is calling my name.
" Well I'm going home,
Back to the place where I belong,
And where your love has always been enough for me.
I'm not running from.
No, I think you got me all wrong.
I don't regret this life I chose for me.
But these places and these faces are getting old.
I said these places and these faces are getting old,
So I'm going home.
I'm going home."
