Farmville

I love farms.

When my family decided to move up north to the great county of Morris, I was eight and very cantankerous. I did not enjoy driving an hour only to schlep around other people's houses and listen to my parents speak way over my head. The way that they got me to go with them on these mysterious journeys to the land of the trees was to bribe me with horseback riding lessons. The rule was that if I behaved, then after we toured houses I would get one half hour lesson. It is through this bribery that I developed my love of farms.

This morning a friend and I decided to explore our surroundings and went on a walk only to discover the farm on cook! I remember seeing the farm when I went to an Ag-day many a year ago, but I hadn't yet visited it as my now older and much more distinguished self who I of course announced to the world by squealing "Gooooaaattsss" and running across the road to pet them. After the goats we moved onto the pigs, and then the cows, who enjoyed licking my hands and eating my pants even more then they hay they were given.

I am so happy to have a farm on campus.

When I decided to transfer here from the University of Vermont, one of the things I was most worried about was the lack of wildlife and vegetation around New Brunswick. I am a nature lover through-and-through and could not imagine being happy in a place that didn't make me sneeze. I think that Rutgers has a very nice blend of urban and country. People can walk around on college ave and explore the hustle and bustle of "city" life and then hop on a bus and visit Orwell's animal farm.  I do not think that I would have liked to live on College Ave, I'm to much of a country bumpkin to be surrounded by the noises of the city all day every day, but I do enjoy stopping over there every now and then just as I enjoy coming home to the trees of Douglass and the cows of Cook.

Quick Life Updates:

  1. I did attend the Alpha Phi Omega meeting and greek life is not for me. (My mom seems to know me better then I know myself, I hate it when she's right)
  2. I got into Voorhees Choir!
  3. I promise to dust off my camera and take some pictures soon.
  4. I may have a spot in a social psych research lab - more on that later.

Best line: "I am a nature lover through-and-through and could not imagine being happy in a place that didn't make me sneeze"  Thank you for that!  as for Orwell. . . well, better perhaps a comparison to Orwell's far than to his other novel having to do with "big brother"!

I do so look forward to pix.  And congrats on choir!

If you like nature, check out the Rutgers Gardens across Route 1 from the Cook Campus!

For some reason I can't comment when I am at school, but anyway...

Richard, I will definitely be doing that! My parents got married on the steps of the Log Cabin in the gardens so I'm excited to go venture and fine it =]
