Hey all! It seems like forever since I last posted an entry. In all actuality, it’s only been 9 days. I don't know about everyone else, but being at Rutgers puts you in a sort of time warp. You wake up thinking its one day when it’s another. At one point you find yourself begging for the weekend, and then Sunday night, you look back on the weekend like it happened a month ago.
In the last week I:
-traversed the ridiculous weekend 1&2 busses,
-mapped out my academic future with ODASIS
-bonded with the 3rd floor Katzenbach Girls
-FINALLY sampled all dining halls
Here's the Breakdown:
Weekend 1 & 2: 1st weekend @ Rutgers,
Countless Freshmen (myself included) walked to their respective bus stops to discover the ticker-takes reading
"Weekend 1: 30 & 45 min/Weekend 2: 37 & 50 min"
As expected, we all looked at each other and questioned the difference. Of course, we all got on the first available bus, only to discover that it took us all around the fricken world before dropping us off at College Ave. a Bus ride that would originally take 5-10 min tops, now lasted close to an hour. Personally, I find it a bit much that there are ONLY 2 busses running for the ENTIRE University, but hey, times are tough. To clear up the confusion, here are the schedules for both buses. The general rule I follow is if you get on the Weekend 1 to go somewhere, get on the Weekend 2 bus back (and vice-versa)

Odasis
This is a WONDERFUL program for all minorities looking to major in any of the Biological sciences while @ Rutgers. I went the orientation last Friday, and was greeted by a multitude of information. As an exercise science major, I found the much needed guidance in the arms of ODASIS. While @ the orientation session, I got the opportunity to talk to the Dean and numerous advisors. The Best thing is that if you need help it’s there for you. You just got to ask for it. On the other hand I’m not looking forward to taking the 2 hour recitation required by ODASIS for anyone in Biology, but hey, it wouldn’t hurt. All in all, if you are even considering Medical School, and you are a minority, do yourself a favor and join ODASIS

Bonding w/ the Katz
This week, my wonderful R.A Erica organized an activity for just the girls on the 3rd floor (the BEST floor *cough-*cough*). We put our hand prints on a banner, along with any rules that we believed are important. Personally, I had a lot of fun. I loved mixing the paint and just getting dirty. =). The Banner came out GREAT and we had a lot of fun doing it

Dining Halls
Ok, so a goal of mine was to eat at ALL of the dining halls and compare them to what we freshmen were told from the moment we stepped on campus. “Busch this….Busch that… blah…blah…blah”
So I decided to put it to the test:
Brower: (College Ave) - Brower is REALLY big, with two separate line for entrée. Visually, it’s quite stimulating. While you are eating, you can face the stairway and check out whose making their entrance. This makes it easy to spot friends and flag them down. Food wise, it was average. Occasionally they burn the French toast or slack on the mashed potatoes, but it was tolerable.
Neilson (pronounced Nell-Son)(Cook/Douglass) - It’s the smallest of the dining halls in my opinion. During the rush hours it becomes difficult to find a place to sit, but trust me it’s worth it. The food is amazing. On top of that the attitude of the staff is by far the best. They greet you with a smile and always ask if you would want more. Neilson also has the smoothie lady….enough said.
Tillet (Livingston):- I ate here for orientation… never again. I apologize for those who live there and are forced to subject themselves to the vile crud that that call food. By ALL means necessary avoid Tillet. Point. Blank. Period. The food is disgusting and the cramped dining area rivals that of a prison.
Busch Dining Hall: - While Busch’s Dining Hall is visually beautiful, and well organized, the food is on par with Neilson. Busch’s D.H has a fireplace in the middle that is remarkably beautiful. The spacious serving area never gets cramped and it’s easy to find what you are looking for.
So If I had to rank them I’d Say...
1. Neilson
2. Busch
3. Brower
4. Tillet
I Know that each person has their own preference, I encourage you to make it part of your bucket list to visit each one to see for yourself
Good Luck
