Looky! Two post in one week! Aren't you the lucky ducks?
Anywho, I received a phone call tonight that just irked me a bit...
Me: Hello?
Caller: Hello! This is so and so at Rutgers University. I'd like to speak to the parents of Margaret (insert maiden name)...
Really?
Yes, yes...I realize that the parental units play a large part in most students' lives and the goings on at RU. That's great, really. But, I'm (almost) 32 years old, and getting a call asking to talk to my mommy is almost insulting.
I finally managed to get the poor girl (bless her heart, she kept trying...) to realize that she wasn't going to talk to my mother, and that my parents really don't care what's going on at RU (sorry, folks...they didn't even know I was planning to go back to school full time until a few months before I started.)
Here's my question, and maybe someone can answer it, or perhaps look into a solution:
Somewhere there has to be some record that I'm married (and thirty-something.) UCC has a database, the Bunting program does, I know it. Either why isn't that or is there a way that departments could cross communicate this kind of information?
Oh, and why is it that I've submitted a name change (this summer) and my new name is just about everywhere at RU, but they were still asking for my parents using my maiden name?
Normally I find this kind of stuff amusing (I laugh when I see mail from RU addressed to my parents...who live several thousand miles away,) and maybe my string of good days have driven me to the point of giddiness (and thereby irritability...don't ask, it's a strange dynamic,) but it just really got my goat.
Please, please, please, don't call me asking to talk to my mommy and daddy. My education is in my control, and decisions are made by me (in consultation with my husband...who normally just says, "Do what you want"). And I know I'm not the only one.
