Mother Nature must have missed the memo...

You know...the one about everything in moderation?

I'm all for rain.  I know we need it, and usually I love a good thunderstorm.  However, I am NOT for all the rain we needed this past summer and then some being dumped in the span of a few short days.  I'm starting to wonder if we need to initiate building Ark 2.0.

In all reality, I'm actually just jealous of everyone who has rain boots.  Granted, I haven't seen so many pairs of galoshes since I was in kindergarten (you know, I'm seeing a pattern here...naps go out of fashion at about the age of 3 and make a come back in adulthood...it appears galoshes (or wellies, if you must) follow the same route.  Why we decided at that age it's cooler to be tired and have wet feet is beyond me...)  But, I am completely aware of how beneficial such an acquisition would be.  The only bad thing is that, due to the fact that I'm ridiculously tall and have appropriately proportioned feet (read, huge,) it's difficult for me to find cute ones...and who wants ugly galoshes? (THAT part we can leave relegated to kindergarten.)

This week's rain has really made me contemplate what I need to have available to me throughout the day.  As a commuter, I don't have the luxury of running to my dorm room for a dry pair of socks and shoes.  Since my car is essentially my locker, and I usually park somewhere sheltered, I'm going to work on putting together an incliment weather kit including:

Dry socks
Dry shoes (until I get those rain boots)
A change of pants
Umbrella (everyone should have one of these)

I also want to look into something that would help waterproof my backpack...or at least a waterproof sleeve for my computer.

Thankfully, I just so happened to have a pair of (mis-matched) dry socks and (matching) dry shoes, so I was able to avoid squishy foot syndrome for the entire day.

On a side note...I finally got to start a pilates class this week!  On of my fellow Bunting students is the instructor for a rec class.  Can't beat a 9 week class for $25!  My core thanks you, Rec Department!

Peggy, besides me so laugh-out-loud full of good humor, I must again thank you for the practical perspective you offer.  What a useful list!

Hint: if the galoshes/wellies don;t work out, try water-proof ankle height hiking boots.  or at least I find them more supportive for walking.

There really aren't so many fabulous shoe stores downtown but it sure might be fun to shoe shop what there is some day if you have time in your schedule for a jaunt downtown on the buses-- on a dry day.
