The Little Things That Make Me Smile

by Dawn B. 28. September 2010 11:18

1) Chivalry isn't dead.

Oh crowded weekend buses, how we all despise you--this past weekend, not only are you always crowded but also very slow in arriving places. A random guy tapped me on the shoulder this past weekend and gave up his seat for me since I was getting crushed. Awwwwww! Being on a weekend bus (especially at night) is Survival of the Fittest. I love it when people are sweet--I was so surprised.

2) Funnel Cake!!!

Needless to say, Neilson (pronounced Nelson pleaseee stop butchering it!) is my favorite dining hall. I have 5/7 classes on College Ave, but the days I do haul ass to Neilson have been wonderful.

See below:

I know you're all jealous.

3) Vegetarian Fat Sandwiches

I'm normally really good about what I eat, but sometimes being stuck in the Scott Hall area tempts me. Especially before I have a quiz on 70 pages of reading. I've been doing the vegetarian thing since last year and I love it, but I also love to indulge in unhealthy food as a distraction--Yay for Veggie Fat Sandwiches! They are cheaper and only halfdeath on a bun ;]

4) Life's a Party!

I have four classes on Monday and Wednesday, but I end both of those days with my crazy amazing Psych professor. One of the first things he told us was that this class was to empower us, and that the only thing important in life is having a good time and that we should all have a party. Of course, he probably means this figuratively haha. As he was explaining psychoanalysis to us, he relayed one of his experiences and began dancing as if he was "at the discotech." Love it. Love it when professors get really into what they do.

5) Ballet for $25

I've been a dancer my whole life, and let me tell you--dance tuition is expensiveeeeeee. Move in weekend, I was flipping through a Rec class booklet and saw I could take Ballet II for $25?! Awesome. The first class was this past Friday and I love it. I don't have any credit classes on Friday, so getting up only to dance is great.

6) The Eccentricities of Football Days

This was painfully awesome. Now that I am a Dance Marathon captain, I have to work certain fundraisers, one of which included the concession stand near the student section at this weekend's football game. It's all FTK--For the Kids--and that's what we kept telling ourselves although we started working four hours before the game started and stayed an hour after it ended. I made some AWESOME friends and know how to pack fries faster than you can pay for them.

Bus pile up on College Ave! It was such a tease trying to get from there to Busch. They wouldn't move. -__-

Our pride and joy!

DM Pride!!! For the Kids!!!

Hahaha you can't tell, but I'm inside a freezer :D And I'm all Rutgers'd out with the gear I had to wear that day haha.

The stadium after everyone cleared out.

After the game, I walked with my friend Tammy from Busch to College Ave. Piscataway to New Brunswick. I AM A TROOPER with all the walking I've been doing since I moved in. The distance isn't as huge as it sounds, and I certainly got to College Ave faster than any of those football shuttles. Makes for a good bonding experience.

7) Flashdrive Email

I'm always running around everywhere and I spend much time in the libraries and computer labs on Douglass and College Ave. I have a pretty purple flashdrive I left in one of the Macs (because the USB drives are behind the monitors) and got really sad over losing all my schoolwork. I got an email last week telling me that they found it in the DCC Lab and that they were holding it for me. Win! I'm glad a good amount of people are so considerate despite this being a huge fend-for-yourself school.

8) Possum

Supposedly there's always this possum-looking animal lurking near Neilson. I finally saw it, and it approached me. O_O It looked angry. And I was the one who ran away because it kept coming closer. When I got to the dining hall I laughed at how stupid I must have looked if anyone saw that haha.

9) Rain Without Thunder

Yesterday morning I was walking back from Hickman Hall to Jameson and my rainboots split open from my heel hahaha (luckily I'm very prepared and have another pair here!) It was in the middle of the downpour, but it didn't bother me too much because I love it when it rains without lightning or thunder. It's so pretty and cleansing. In April of my senior year, I did a Douglass Student Recruitment Network visit and loved every minute with my hostess--loved it so much that I was confident that I wanted to become a Douglass woman. For the two days I spent with my hostess, it RAINED. Like, POURED. I got accepted to be a DSRN Hostess (woo! moniez) this academic year and yesterday we went to Houlihan's on Route 1 (yes, I walked there... and got hella lost, but I got there!) for a social meet-and-greet event. My hostess was sitting at my table--that and the rain totally threw me back to the good times I had and how excited I am to show prospective Douglass women everything Douglass has to offer.

Big smiles----> :D :D :D

Possum are evil...and ugly.  I would have run away too if I'd seen one approaching.  I also avoid geese...they're mean and they bite (and they chase you.)

Wait until you meet Busch's geese or Livi's deer, twin. <3
