You all be well for me.

This may be a bit of a touchy subject, and a controversial subject.  But I have to write about it.  Ignoring injustice only makes it more powerful.

I'm talking about the tragic suicide of Tyler Clementi, of course.  It's a subject that's been on everyone's mind the past few days.  It's been really uplifting to see the entire gargantuan Rutgers community come together in rememberence of Tyler.  All over campus today, students were wearing black.  There was a memorial in front of Brower. It's good to see that so many people can rally together to mourn one person's premature passing.

My Creative Writing professor cut class short today.  She was too distraught, I guess.  I don't know.  I just don't get it.  I just hate the fact that human civilization has been around for thousands of years and has invented all these things and we still can't prevent the suicide of a young man who didn't deserve to suffer like this.  I guess that's why we didn't have Creative Writing today.  We can't just pretend life is going on as normal when all this has happened.

I just want to say, to anyone out there who feels like Tyler (or any of the other young people who've taken their own lives this week): it gets better.  You are NOT alone.  EVERYONE has a right to feel safe and loved, no matter what their gender or race or sexual orientation.  So please, PLEASE, if any of you Rutgers students reading this feel suicidal, or helpless, or just need someone to talk to, CALL THE COUNSELING OFFICE.  Their number is 732-932-7884. PLEASE, don't think you're alone!  Because you're not.  You have an entire community here to support you. And I don't want to see another memorial in front of Brower for you.  My heart couldn't take it.
