I’m counting down to my first (and only) midterm—Psychology—in five (actually…almost four) days. AHHHH! I’ve gotten so used to writing essays and poems and research papers that I’ve almost forgotten how to study.
The other day, I told my roommate that one day, if I disappeared and she couldn’t find me, I was probably drowning in a flood of papers. Boy, do I have a TON of reading to do. I have a feeling that it’s only going to increase over the years (yeah yeah, no one told me to be an English major), but reading, writing, studying literature and honing language skills is something I know I will continue to enjoy.
Back to psych now. Our professor wants us to make mind maps, these diagrams/charts that are a way to organize notes visually instead of textually. This is how we ought to review for the midterm—read the three chapters and make the mind maps. Soo…I finally got around to making them last week. It’s an interesting way to take notes, and it definitely takes a while for me to make one (because it bothers me if the words are lopsided and scrawled all over the page…I have to get it right and make it neat). I do agree though, writing and drawing and coloring my notes do help me remember better. All this thinking and logic uses my left brain. The hippocampus helps with changing short term memories to long term memories. Semantic memories are facts, names, and information. Studying makes me unhappy, which activates the right hemisphere of my brain. Which suppresses my immune system, which is not good.
BUT today we had s’mores at our dorm! This is why I love Bunting-Cobb :) What perfect timing! Actually, it was a session about housing and campus safety. It was also probably more for people to celebrate the end of midterms, but ah well. It’s a brain break for me. Maybe I’ve conditioned myself to reward myself with goodies between periods of studying, haha. Anyway, take a look at the pics below!

Look at our bonfire! Time to roast some marshmallows.

Making s’mores behind our building. Mmm, delicious. This picture doesn’t do it justice…

That would be my third one :)
Hope everyone's midterms went/are going well!!
