The All-Knighter

WARNING: Do not try this alone. Or at home. Or anywhere for that matter.

  1. Grab an energy drink
  2. Bring your work along
  3. Music
  4. Food
  5. Get ready to stay awake!

A month into university and I’ve done enough all-knighters (yes… all knighters. Not all nighters) to last me a lifetime.

Definition of an all-knighter: A random night when you decide to stay up as late as possible and if you’re lucky you will still be awake when you land up in your first class for the day. This “knight” involves a lot of interesting antics including but not limited to splurging on fat burgers, walking on the streets, bouncing off the walls of your room (It is possible.), etc.

They’ve been fun, and they’ve been tiring, but I’ve turned into a sleep deprived insomniac and I can’t stop. Only last week my roommate and I decorated our door for Halloween in the early hours of the morning. Oh yes, we definitely were awake at 3:30am, had an epiphany about recycling paper and making Halloween door decorations. And oh yes, we were at it till 5am. Some all-knighters were for weird unexpected reasons like our Halloween decoration rampage, others were while just trying to get to know each other better, many were for studying for tests and quizzes and finally, some were just to see how long we could stay awake before we completely crashed.

I love all knighters because I’m a night person, I’ve always been. Although its definitely not a healthy choice, it seems as if I only get time to do things at night. Being a college kid is tiring! I’ve always heard this one thing about college, you’ve got to choose two out of the following three options: 1) Good Grades, 2) Getting Enough Sleep and 3) Social Life. So, erm I think I’m going to give up number 2 for now. Hehe. But don’t worry my roommate and I have decided to sleep earlier this week! We’re going to push each other to sleep because obviously we’re both insomniacs and need someone to force us to do so. Anyway, Halloween was tons of fun, some people on the fourth floor had kept out a huge bag of fortune cookies and the door decorations were spooktacular. Oh and a friend of mine went to the Haunting of Lipman House and ended up with a torn sweater and the actors getting out of character. Imagine this: Girl walks into Haunted house, ghosts and spooky things scare her. A guy with a chainsaw runs towards her, and she tries to run away. She gets stuck. The guy with the chainsaw offers to help. Hmm?

Also, an update: There’s another Indian festival this week – Diwali or Deepavali! I’m so excited because it’s one of the most important festivals for Indians; it’s the festival of lights. I’m going to go home this weekend to some spectacular food before succumbing to my textbooks and the looming presence of my 3 exams next week.

Whoo, hope you had a spooky Halloween!

Happy Diwali to everyone celebrating!
