I successfully finished my first semester of college on Tuesday. To celebrate, I had a tea party.
Just kidding!
Let's backtrack a bit. In November, there was interesting information session for people who wanted to apply to be Resident Assistants (RAs) next year. I had seen the flyer on the door, and one time, as I stood there taking it all in, my RA walked past and said, “Oh, you should come to the info session and apply!” I said okay, went to the info session, and, now that my exams and papers are out of the way, decided to apply, as did/are many (many many many) more students.
How is this related, you ask? Well, the tea party was actually the program a group of us, people from the first floor of Bunting-Cobb who are applying to become RAs, planned and organized and ran. It came together pretty quickly, as we came up with the idea just last week. With the pressure of finals bearing down on us, we decided to have a de-stress event. I'm sure each of us in the group felt stressed in the process, which is kind of ironic, but we distributed the tasks and, ultimately, it all worked out. On Tuesday evening, we encouraged people to take a break from studying and take time to “Dot the i's and cross the 'teas'” because people could make holiday cards, have some tea and chat with friends, enjoy the music, and if they felt like it, get up and dance. It was fun, if I do say so myself. :)
And then last night was the renowned Midknight Breakfast. Today is officially the first day of finals, so yesterday was the second of the two reading days. Apparently, people stay up all night the day before finals anyway, so this whole breakfast at midnight thing is extremely popular. I wasn't planning on going, but one of my friends said, “Hey let's go” and pulled me along. Fine. The dining hall wasn't supposed to open until 11:30pm, but when we reached the door, there were hordes of people flocking towards the two teeny double doors, and it was only 11:15. We went in, pounced on a table, and got up to get food. The dining hall was literally a jungle. Where people normally line up for the hot entree was a crowd that spread over to the saute area, which merged with the grille area, which met the side door where people were pouring in and the lines were coiling around what would be the pizza line. There had to be hundreds of people, crammed in, trying to grab some bagels, snatch a few muffins, take a danish or two, pick up some fruit, or maybe an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich. What an experience! I'm glad I went (and managed to get back to the residence hall unscathed).
Anyway, it's time for me to get back to my application / Christmas-card-making. All the best on finals, everyone! Keep up the good work!
