College really makes you fight for what you want--this has been (unexpectedly!) the most amazing time of my life.
My life rocks because:
1) Iota Sigma Beta
First and foremost, I am now a sister of Iota Sigma Beta! It's the first established leadership sorority in the nation. I wasn't really particularly interested in Greek Life when I first came to Rutgers, but coming out to RUSH and connecting with some of the most amazing women I've ever met in my life made all the difference. I've become more confident as a leader and more efficient with my time all while getting to know awesome people.
2) Douglass Pride <3
Last weekend, I went to the 93rd annual Yule Log Ceremony held in Voorhees Chapel on Douglass! I'm so proud to say that I am part of a community which still respects and upholds traditions created decades ago. The ceremony was beautiful, and the Yule Log cake was delicious! Aside from that, I got to host my first perspective student through the Douglass Student Recruitment Network, and she loved her visit here and hopes to join the Douglass community next year. I loved walking with her around campus, showing off the bridges, dining hall, and dorms. I didn't realize how much I loved Douglass until I couldn't shut up about how it made my decision to come to Rutgers so much easier. I'm also still living in Jameson next year, in an even bigger room with my awesome roommate :D surprisingly, a lot of the upperclassmen who moved out into apartments are coming back to Jameson H--goes to show how great of a community it is!

3) Performing is Awesome!
All of last week was Tech Week for the Rutgers Performing Dance Company. I was so excited to perform in my first show at Rutgers! Being in a big company like RPDC isn't the same as being at your local dance studio where you know everyone, but it's great to meet a lot of people who love to dance as much as you do.
4) Costa Rica
W000000 while everyone is shivering at home, I'm spending a week in Costa Rica thanks to all an-expense paid trip by the Byrne Seminar department (well, besides insurance and registration). There are ten of us going (two of them I met at Leadership Quest over the summer! One of them was actually my roommate :D) as the pilot group of kiddles heading out of the country for a Byrne Seminar on Earthquakes and Volcanoes. I'm not a science major, but I absolutely love learning about everything I can, and how often do you get an opportunity like that paid for? W0000 Rutgers!
5) Dance Marathon Pride <3
I got to introduce myself to my committee members recently, and I am incredibly excited to start working with them in the spring. Dance Marathon is a 32-hour long student run event which only requires participants to stay on their feet for the kids (FTK!) of the Embrace Kids Foundation. I'm one of the captains of the entertainment team, which entails giving dancers activities to do during the marathon. That means I get to paint and craft to my heart's content next semester. I LOVE creative outlets--I picked the right organization to get involved with!
6) Finals
So I actually really do love studying and writing papers. Legit--but usually only in the company of other people. I have been to many study parties on all campuses which end up turning into a let's-talk-all-night-about-things-that-aren't-academic session. Somehow those are the most precious bonding moments. :D And it's also awesome to see everyone cracked out on caffeine to the point where everything is funny, including Calculus derivatives and the never ending chapters of whale-history in Moby Dick.
7) The Idiosyncracies of Being a Rutgers Student
A few of them include: being able to tally up random items at the DCC to be $7.50 in less than a minute, seeing professors at the Grease Trucks, cursing off NextBus for being about 30 minutes off, getting free popcorn and apple cider at bus stops, going to coffeehouses all around New Brunswick, half-off tickets at the State Theatre, Mama Brower, Holiday Dinners... gotta love it all!
