My New Year's (Semester) Resolutions

by melissah 12. January 2011 16:56

Hello all!

As the Winter Break draws to a close (thank god), I found myself thinking of the semester ahead of me. It’s a fresh start. A blank slate for me to start anew with new professors, new classmates and (unfortunately) new Books =[. The 1st semester flew by in a blur. In a blink I was studying for finals. All in all I believe I did well. Although I didn't make Deans List (congrats again David P!!!), I am proud of my grades. At the same time, I know where I can improve and excel. The 1st semester was an eye-opener for sure. My biggest revelation was that COLLEGE IS NOT EASY. Yeah, Yeah I know that should have been obvious right? Surprisingly it's not. I did not realize that in order to do well on an exam, I had to dedicate 3+ hours to the class. Biology is an exception, I dedicated over 6+ hours a week to that class alone.(ugh) Looking back I can see all of the mistakes I made along with the triumphs I’ve had.

In retrospect, I wish that I could have been better guided when I picked my classes for my fall semester so here is the main thing I want to express:

DO NOT TAKE A F.I.G.S/BYRNE SEMINAR. While Rutgers praises the opportunity of taking a class in a field that you are interested in, or a seminar in something that interests you, this is not the way to go about it. The F.I.G.S classes are taught by a junior, and are fairly boring. While there is relatively NO homework, it is not worth it. The overall dryness made this class a Hassle to go to. Not to mention that it does not count toward your G.P.A and does NOT fulfill any requirements needed to graduate. It is a Pass/Fail 1 credit class that is honestly NOT worth your time. If you want to take a class that interests you, do it outside of the F.I.G.S/ Byrne Seminars. That way it will improve your G.P.A and minimize the amount of credits you need to take in the future.

Phew... that felt good to get off my chest. (Lol). Now back to my resolution,

I, Melissa, Resolve to do the following:

~Read the Biology Chapter before the lecture

~Study frequently

~Eat Healthier

~Work out at least twice a week

~Blog more often (sorry Lee =])

~Have more fun

~Join a club

~Get ALL A's & B's

~take more pictures

Honestly, I’m excited for this semester. I’m excited to begin anew and supersede the semester before it.

Dear Spring,

Prepare yourself for an A$$kickin'

Love,

Melissa
