..and I think it's getting close to breaking the sound barrier. I'm just waiting for the boom.
I remember when I was little and days seemed to last FOR-EV-ER. It always seemed like something I was waiting for was never going to get there, and I would have sworn I would die before the day (Christmas, my birthday, the first day of school) would finally be the next day.
Now all I want is a pause button.
The spring semester is 1/2 over. Spring break is, in essence, over. Life just keeps speeding by.
For all the high school seniors who might read this, I speak to you honestly. Life does not slow down. For anything. If nothing else, it continues to accelerate as you get older. It's really not fair, but then, life isn't exactly fair.
I've been reflecting on that very thing recently, along with my impending trip to Scotland (I was accepted to the Rutgers Study Abroad program...next up, acceptance to the University of St. Andrews.)
There is so much pressure on young people to go to college immediately after high school and subsequently become gainfully employed. I'm absolutely not saying that is a bad thing, but sometimes I wonder if that is the best route for some kids. I mean, really, having to decide what you want to do with the rest of your life at 18? It's kind of crazy. Not to mention that you've been through 12+ years of school already...by then a lot of people just hate school and want to be done with it.
I'm proof positive that a person is likely to have more than one career in their lifetime. My husband is too, for that matter. He went back to school when he was 30 to get his MBA and law degree. Granted, that man is now working on another degree, but as long as it's on someone else's dime (his employer in this case), he can (and probably will) be in school until the day he dies. And he will probably switch careers at least one or two more times in his life...same for me.
You know what? There is nothing wrong with that. There is nothing wrong with not knowing what you want to do with the rest of your life. There is nothing wrong with changing up what you do with your life from time to time. Because, really, since the time will fly, there is no point in wasting the time you have doing something you hate.
