If any of you readers took your placement test on April 9th in Scott Hall we may have met and didn't even know it!
I was one of the exam proctors aka one of the people who had to walk around make sure no one was cheating but more fun than that, one of those people who was shouting at you afterwards to see if you had any questions or to help direct you to get food.
So. Much. Fun.
My and my friend Caroline's job was to stand outside for most of the day and help new students and parents find where Scott Hall, room 123 was located - it's extra confusing because you have to exit the building labeled "Scott Hall" to get to it...hmm. I had a blast asking people about what their majors were, what school they were in, where they were coming from and most importantly, if they were exited to take a math test at 10:30 in the morning (who isn't?). We got to talk to a lot of parents about our Rutgers' experience and answer the questions they had about dorm life, meal plans, classes and advising. We answered a lot of student questions as well even though most of them were about where to get food :-)
One of my favorite parts of the day was teaching everyone the Rutgers Fight Song, that is something you all must learn before your first football game. Absolutely no if, ands or buts about it.
The entire day really opened my eyes to how much I love going to Rutgers and I love to tell people why I love it. I really think that the beauty of Rutgers is that everyone has a completely individualized experience. We all go to the same school and take away the same basic principles but at the same time, what I am getting from my education is going to be completely different from anyone else - even if we are the same major. The diversity of Rutgers astounds me and I love being a part of an institution that allows for everyone to be who they want to be and one that has resources for everyone who wants to take advantage of them. Its often overwhelming to try and fit in everything that Rutgers has to offer but if it is possible for you to fit it in, definitely try to - I promise you, making this school individually yours is absolutely worth it.
Proctoring the exam also made me think about how I want to get more involved on campus. I have to start researching tour-guiding and tabling opportunities. I am getting more involved in Rutgers Corps so that I can talk to more potential students about coming to Rutgers. I'm also really considering getting a masters in College Student Affairs and working at the college for the rest of my life - I love nothing more than planning and talking about my own education and I think I would love talking to other students about theirs as well.
The possibilities are endless at Rutgers (which sometimes kills me because I get so excited about every new one), at least I know i'll never be stunted =]
