Rutgers has some TALENT!

As previously posted by some of my fellow bloggers, RutgersFest is this weekend.  Now, that kind of scene really isn't my thing as I'm not a big fan of crowds.  I mean, you're talking to someone who avoids getting on the bus if standing is involved...I'd rather wait for the next bus. Considering the way I saw people crammed on to the busses headed to College Ave, I probably would have had a panic attack.

I did brave the traffic on Friday (even though I don't have classes) to head to the Livingston campus, though. (Yeah for having a commuter pass and not having to deal with busses after 6 pm.)  The Livingston Theatre Company's (rultc.org) production of Hairspray is slated to run the entire weekend of RutgersFest and, as a fan of the movie (old school John Waters, thanks) and the musical, not to mention that student tickets are only $6, a friend of mine and I decided to check it out.

We were both so glad we did.  The show was FABULOUS!  There is some serious musical and acting talent at Rutgers, and it isn't all at Mason Gross.  While a number of the actors are music majors (Motormouth Maybelle...that girl has some pipes!), there were just as many if not more that are undergrads in other schools.  One of my classmates played Edna Turnblad (Kol, you rocked!) and one of my choirmates played Prudy Pingleton (along with a couple other parts...Sam, you were fantastic! You have great timing!)

My friend and I spent the evening laughing, crying ('I Know Where I've Been' is a tear-jerker every time), and cheering for the awesome cast, and vowed that we're going to see more shows.  If Hairspray is any indicator, there's definitely some good stuff going on there.

Congratulations to the LTC and the cast of Hairspray!
