Intro to my First month at Rutgers && What are the Campuses?

Now that we have that whole who am I part over...

LETS TALK ABOUT RUTGERS!!!

I am actually an Out of State student, I'm from that far away place called Pennsylvania. As soon as I tell people I am from out of state I always get the same question, "Why did you choose Rutgers?" Well I chose Rutgers for a lot of great reasons, which I am going to detail in a later post, but most importantly because Rutgers is a GREAT university. I am in Rutgers Business School - New Brunswick, where currently I am a pre-business major, but I am intending to study Marketing as well as Communication at the School of Communication and Information. I live on the Livingston campus (aka Livi if you're cool) in the Ernest A. Lynton Towers with my awesome roomate Emily.

If you're not familiar with the campus system at Rutgers - New Brunswick I will try (key word try) to break it down. Rutgers - New Brunswick is made up of five campuses: College Ave, Douglass, Cook, Busch, and saving the best for last, Livingston. In 1766 when Rutgers was founded, it was Queens College (The 8th oldest University in the U.S.) Queens College (now called Old Queens) is on the College Avenue Campus. Hence College Ave is the oldest campus at Rutgers and when you think Rutgers you think College Ave. The campuses went through a lot of different changes and some of them stuck to their roots while some have changed completely. So College Ave = Old. Cook Campus, historically agricultural has kept its roots and still has a farm where people raise livestock, and it has the Rutgers Gardens which are beautiful. Today Cook is home to the School of Enviromental and Biological Sciences, so it has pretty much stayed with it's roots. Now Douglass. Oh Douglass. Douglass College was founded in 1918 as the largest womens' college. Nowadays their are All-female living options on Douglass, but it now also houses co-ed dorms. It is home to Passion Puddle, the Kissing Bridge and Mason Gross School of the Arts. Alright Busch. I'm not going to lie to you I do not know the historical significance of Busch, but I know Busch loves math and science. Today Busch is home to pretty much all of the math and applied science courses as well as the school of engineering. Busch also has the Footbal Stadium. (RU RAH RAH) and several of the other sports fields. Now the best LIVINGSTON. I have heard many a tale about the roots of livingston, but I have nothing accurate so it's not that important. As for now Livi is considered the "freshman campus" because mostly freshman live here. It houses the Business School and the best Dining Hall on Campus. Currently Livingston is going through a bit of a facelift so hopefully it will be perfect by the time you get here.

Wow, well I hope that was informative. As for me that's pretty much the short summary of my Rutgers life so far. I love my dorm room and my roomate, Thanks to Hurricane Irene which occured move-in weekend I have made some amazing friends luckily they're my floormates. I spend most of my time on the bus, in the dining hall, in my room eating take out, and oh yeah I spend some time in class. (:

Next two posts will probably be why I chose Rutgers & a breakdown of my freshman schedule ( a very typical first year first semester schedule)
