That Thing They Call a Post Office....

by skylarf 3. October 2011 14:15

For my first post I've decided to rant about the terrible system known as the post office.  I live on Livingston so this might not be the case for everyone.  I've received a few packages since I've been here and every time I go to pick them up, I wind up in a terrible mood.  First off, it took me FOREVER to get my box open.  I tried every different possible combination of turning the dial to try and get it open and nothing work.  It was like freshmen year of high school all over again when I couldn't get my locker open on the first day of school.  I eventually just gave up and went to the counter, defeated, and told the man i couldn't get my box open.  He got my package for me and I was off, back to my room to open the box.  This exact same thing happened a few days later when another package arrived for me.  Also, the hours of the post office are absolutely horrendous.  If you want to pick up a package you can only do so certain days of the week during a span of 3 hours.  Shouldn't the post office be open all the time?  I honestly don't even know when the post office is even open because apparently the times on the email notifications you get are wrong.  And now I have items to return from an online order I made and I'm pretty sure I can't send them out from the Livingston Post Office because they need to be shipped UPS and the post office only ships USPS.  So basically my opinion is that the post office is terrible and something really should be done to fix it and make it more accessible and easy to use.

Hi Skylar,

Wow, so sorry to hear the box was difficult to open. And keepers, with hours until midnight, we've thought the post offices were pretty accessible: http://mds.rutgers.edu/studentmailpickup.html. Have you asked your RA about the way others access UPS?

Best,
Lee
