That's a phone call you NEVER want to wake up to, but I did this morning. My boyfriend, who is far dearer to me than a hunk of metal, was riding into work this morning when a commuter in a rush did a California Roll through a stop sign and pulled out in front of him while he was traveling at 30 mph. He had no chance. The bike locked up and slid sideways under the nose of the car whose driver had finally noticed the motorcycle heading toward her and mercifully stopped before she ran over his head. Somehow he managed to come through with just a scraped knee and bruised ego, but he wouldn't have had an issue at all if the other driver had simply stopped at the stop sign and actually looked for oncoming traffic.
So I'm sending out this plea to all of you: We're all in a rush, we're often late, and we tend to forget that not everyone on the road is surrounded by a cage of steel. PLEASE stop. Look for those single headlights. The person behind one is loved and treasured by someone. And please don't hit me!
