Move over Adele, there's a new Brit in town...

Since my big one isn't until this Thursday, my boyfriend decided to take me to a show Friday night.  Sure he had to pry my head out of a stack of books to do it, but since he's like, 3 times my size I didn't put up much of a fight.  Some years back he and his crew started listening to Shawn Mullins, and its a rare occasion that Shawn is in the area and we don't have tickets to a couple of shows.  Who's Shawn Mullins you ask?  Remember a little tune a couple years back called "Lullaby"?  (Everything's gonna be all right, rockabye....rockabye) No?  "Something to Believe In", with guest vocals by Shawn Colvin?  There you go.  Cool  Anyway, Shawn has been touring for the past year with a young British singer named Callaghan.  He produced her debut album "Life in Full Color", and it's definitely worth a listen.  For a great sample of her music (FREE!) go to www.callaghansongs.com, or www.facebook.com/callaghanmusic .  Here's what you need to know about the girl;  first, she's gorgeous.  I mean make me want to throw up perfect porcelain skin, long dark hair, and big blue eyes.  Then she opens her mouth and sings, and every single note is pitch perfect and clear as a bell, no autotune required.  This is NOT a pop-tart.  She owns her stage,  nothing but a guitar and keyboard to accompany her, and by the end of her set she had the entire audience stamping their feet and singing along to Johny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues".  The appeal of going to an acoustic show with a singer/songwriter is the connection these people are able to make with the audience.  You don't just get to hear a great set, you get the story of the inspiration behind the songs, or a story about some of the places the performer has been. These are often as compelling and entertaining as the music itself.   Callaghan's free download is about leaving London in the United Kingdom for America, following her dream.  When you get right down to it, we're all here at RU following our dreams too.  Check her out, you might find yourself grabbing tickets whenever she happens to be coming through town.  That guy she's touring with isn't all that hard to listen to either...

Be well People!
