It Hasn't Even Snowed Yet...

by skylarf 25. October 2011 11:38

There are exactly two months until Christmas and I'm still wearing shorts and a tshirt while inside even though its 50 degrees outside.  I continue to sleep with the fan on all the way and both of my windows open and still I wake up sweating.  Why is this happening? For some reason Rutgers decided that it was time to turn the heat on.  As my roommate said when complaining to our RA how hot it is, "It hasn't even snowed yet?"  I thought we were supposed to be going green and conserving energy.  There is no need to have the heat on until at least Thanksgiving.  It is still cool enough outside that we don't have to wear our snow boots and parkas so why is the heat on inside?  And it's not only in the residence halls.  The auditorium in Beck Hall on Livingston is a sauna.  The other day it was so bad during class that I actually had to get up to leave because I started to get dizzy and thought I was going to pass out from the heat.  So really Rutgers why is it so necessary to turn the heat on the second the temperature drops below 60 degrees? Some of us actually like the cold.

Hi Skylar,

I love that you are taking a green initiative! I am the head of communications for the Douglass Sustainability Committee (we are open to all members of the Rutgers Community) and we are writing a proposal to Dean Litt to work on "greenifying" the dorms next semester. One of the things we are going to be focusing on is temperature control in the dorms. If you are interested in getting involved (and I hope you are) please send me an email at sustaindouglass@gmail.com - from there I can give you more information on when we meet and keep you up-to-date with different projects we are working on.

Thanks!
