One of my biggest fears became a reality a few weeks ago. My MacBook, that I love so dearly, just decided not to turn on one day. It gave me what is known as the "grey screen of death" and I instantly went in to panic mode. Usually when something went wrong with my laptop I'd immediately make an appointment at the Genius Bar in my local mall but I don't have a car here and was afraid to have to call my parents and tell them I need a new laptop. I decided to be optimistic and hope that my laptop just needed some time to rest so I left it alone for a few hours. That night it was still dead so I called Apple and spent forever on the phone with them and they werent very much help. So the next morning I called my dad and gave him the bad news. He had his IT guy at work do some research and found a way to hopefully fix it but unfortunately it didnt work. Time for Plan B: I made an appointment at the Genius Bar in the Menlo Park Mall and begged a friend to drive me there on a Saturday afternoon. As always, they gave me bad news and said I needed a new hard drive and that I needed to take my computer somewhere else to recover my data which could cost $600. Luckily, my RA told me about the Rutgers Computer Repair Center which is located on Livingston. I immediately called them and they said they could recover the data for only $59! Unfortunately, my hard drive was so dead that they couldn't recover the data at all but they gave me back my old hard drive, put in a new one with the newest software (a free upgrade from my 2007 version), cleaned my laptop for all under $300. They were super nice there and if anything ever happens to my laptop again that will definitely be the first place I go.
