Rainy

by Kaytif 16. November 2011 15:39

Today has consisted of rain, inappropriate clothes for rain (as usual), and being late (surprise!), and probably two or three other small things that ruined my minute but that’s about it.

What I remember about rainy days are all the things that make them not suck.  Everybody’s seen an act of kindness or good that comes out in some shitty situation.  I think part of what I like about rain is that sometimes, even though average rain is an inconvenience and not a disaster, it makes people pay attention to each other and be nice.  Not always, since just as often it makes people selfish and push and shove to be under somewhere dry even if it means the person next to you gets pushed in a puddle.  But sometimes strangers share umbrellas, a row of people moves over the extra foot for one more under the awning, and someone offers a hand to help jump over a puddle.  Clunky muddy rainboots are a friendly uniform, the Bad Day Club is open to everybody and not just dysfunctional losers, and big hoods come down to let messy poofy ponytails dry, not look pretty.

BOYS- Rainy days are good days to make friends.  By make friends if you’re not stupid you know that I mean get numbers or at least a fanclub member.  Let your inner gentleman shine and be a boyscout- bring an umbrella and share it.  Maybe it’s just me because I'm a sucker (which I am), but little things go a long way, and my new little friend on Cook who gave me directions and an umbrella for a short walk and the senior who gave me his umbrella to keep after walking me to the library will, I think, always be faces I remember.

Rainy days are good days to be friendly.  Being friendly is good for you.  It’s good for me, anyway, which I’m trying to remember, and I love that.  And so that's why I love rainy days.

I love that the majority of this blogging crew seems to be adopting a "Be Kind" message.
