So, if you're a regular reader you know that I'm involved in the Yule Log committee, and I got to meet a couple of readers tonight at the rehearsal! (Hi Dawn and Dorothy!
) They were so nice to me, I really appreciated them going out of their way to introduce themselves. But I digress. I was at Yule Log rehearsal! Which means that Yule Log is This Weekend! Specifically, Sunday at 4:45 in Voorhees Chapel, which is right off George Street on Chapel Drive. Parking will be available, they haven't told us where but the Douglass Deck seems like a likely choice. The chapel doors open at 4:00, there isn't a bad seat so you don't need to be early, but if you come past 4:45 you'll be asked to wait to take your seat until you won't disturb the ceremony. Afterwards the girls have organized a cookie and cider reception at Douglass College Center, 2nd floor, NJC Lounge. There will be live musicians, good food, and great company. This event is kind of like the tree at Rockefeller Center, it kicks off the Holiday Season at Rutgers.

What I love about Yule Log is how the ceremony has evolved over the decades. Yule Log is Douglass College's oldest tradition, so you can imagine that the ethnic makeup of the college was far different that first year. Rutgers being the marvelously inclusive community it is though recognized that there were other students who should be included besides Christians, and it is now a multi-denominational celebration including readings from the Torah, the Qu'ran, the Bible, even a reading from American Indian oral testimony.
What I also love is the energy and enthusiasm of all the amazing young women who volunteer their time to make this event a success. They are all so much fun to be around, as evidenced by Taylir Sanchez' playful pose in her robes.

Please help us keep Douglass' oldest tradition alive this year, and Join us for Yule Log this Sunday, December 11 at 4:45pm. And don't forget to say hello to me! I'll be the redhead with the giant man standing next to me!
Happy Studying all!
