What is the Dual Degree Program?
Rutgers has an agreement with New Jersey’s 19 community colleges through which a Dual Degree Program (DDP) is offered. Through the DDP, Rutgers admits a select group of fall first-year applicants to New Jersey’s community colleges. Upon completion of an associate of arts or an associate of science degree at the community college, DDP participants will be admitted to at least one college of Rutgers University provided they have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 and completed a
Recommended Transfer Program (RTP).
Eligibility Rutgers will offer admission to the DDP to a select group of fall first-year applicants from New Jersey high schools. These are students for whom space is unavailable at the university because of the growing number of high school graduates applying to Rutgers and their increasingly competitive records. Students who are currently enrolled in a two-year or four-year college are not eligible for this program.
Benefits
The Dual Degree Program provides an alternate path to a Rutgers degree. Students successfully completing the program earn two degrees: the associate's and the bachelor's degree. They do so in a cost-effective manner, paying the lower community college tuition rate for their first two years and the university tuition rate once they transition to Rutgers.
Next Steps
Once admitted to the DDP program, students respond to Rutgers by accepting the offer of admission at a New Jersey community college. Students work with their transfer counselor there to insure they meet the program requirements: completing an associate of arts (AA) or an associate of science (AS); achieving a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average and; completing a Recommended Transfer Program (RTP) as described in the online articulation system, NJ Transfer.
While students are enrolled at the county college, they will receive communication from Rutgers designed to assist them in meeting the program requirements and in preparing to transition to Rutgers.
The semester prior to graduating from the NJ community college, DDP students submit a transition application online by going to www.admissions.rutgers.edu/ddp and completing the form using a unique DDP code they will receive in a communication from Rutgers. We will review the form and credentials and notify students of their transition status.
Recommended Transfer Programs
The Recommended Transfer Programs are described in the online course articulation system, NJ Transfer. This web-based information system provides students with specific course requirements and additional information related to the major. By using NJ Transfer, DDP students can determine course requirements for the first two years of each Rutgers baccalaureate program and choose their classes accordingly.
