Dual Degree Program

What is the Dual Degree Program?

Rutgers offers a Dual Degree Program (DDP) through an agreement with New Jersey’s 19 community colleges. The DDP is distinct from the New Jersey community college affiliates of the School of Health Professions (SHP). Through the DDP each fall, Rutgers refers a select group of applicants to New Jersey community colleges; and upon completion of an associate of arts or an associate of science degree at their community college, DDP participants apply and are admitted to at least one Rutgers school or college (other than SHP) provided they have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 and completed a Recommended Transfer Program (RTP).

We encourage prospective transfer applicants who are currently enrolled or eligible to enroll in a community college but who have not yet achieved an associate’s degree with the recommended grade-point-average (GPA) to continue their studies at a New Jersey county college; earn an AA or AS degree with at least a 3.0 GPA; and then apply to Rutgers.

Rutgers may refer to the Dual Degree Program applicants from New Jersey for whom space is unavailable at the university, due to the increasing competition among Rutgers applicants.

Next Steps

Once referred to the DDP program, students enroll at a New Jersey community college. Students work with their transfer counselor there to ensure they meet the program requirements: completing an associate of arts (AA) or an associate of science (AS); achieving a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average and; completing a Recommended Transfer Program (RTP) as described in the online articulation system, NJ Transfer. The semester prior to graduating from the NJ community college, DDP students submit an application for undergraduate admission with all required credentials.

Recommended Transfer Programs

The Recommended Transfer Programs are described in the online course articulation system, NJ Transfer. This web-based information system provides students with specific course requirements and additional information related to the major. By using NJ Transfer, DDP students can determine course requirements for the first two years of each Rutgers baccalaureate program and choose their classes accordingly.
