Rutgers On The Road

We're taking our show on the road to a location near you! Speak with a Rutgers representative and have all your questions answered. We will be visiting many high schools and community colleges in and outside New Jersey and we'd love to meet you in person.  You can check out when we'll be near you by going to Rutgers on the Road and by clicking on your state or NJ county.  If you are not able to meet us on the road, then please come for a campus visit (even better!) at a time that is convenient for you. Our fall schedule is now available so make your reservation soon.

Rutgers-Camden Professor Wins Prestigious Award

The National Institute on Drug Abuse at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded a highly prestigious Career Development Award to Naomi Marmorstein, an associate professor of psychology at Rutgers-Camden, who will use the $649,500 grant to further her intensive research on how children's anxiety and depression may be associated with substance abuse throughout adulthood.

“Children can show symptoms of depression and anxiety at very young ages, and some youth smoke, drink, and use drugs as well. A better understanding of the associations between these problems will help us more effectively prevent and treat them. If we can get youth on a trajectory of healthy emotional and behavioral development, they are at reduced risk for psychiatric and substance abuse problems as adults,” says Marmorstein. More

Newark Campus Celebrates Healthy Living

Double-dutch jump roping, belly dancing, and cooking demonstrations with free samples are just some of the activities planned for this year's free annual RU Health Fair for students, staff, and faculty at Rutgers-Newark.

College students are increasingly likely to suffer from being overweight, over-caffeinated, or having high blood pressure as a result of too many unhealthy foods, too little sleep, and other poor health choices, say medical experts. Rutgers-Newark will try to reverse that tide with this interactive program designed to promote smart choices about diet, exercise, and other factors that impact wellness.

New Brunswick Scientists Preserve Food Naturally

University chemists and food scientists have developed alternative strategies to improve food safety and prevent food contamination and spoilage.

The researchers employed natural antimicrobial agents derived from sources such as cloves, oregano, thyme and paprika to create novel biodegradable polymers or plastics to potentially block the formation of bacterial biofilms on food surfaces and packaging. More
