About Art (B.A.)
The Department of Art & Design sparks exploration across various art disciplines with courses’s emphasis on the study of drawing, color, and composition as well as time and screen-based contemporary art practices. The BA degree provides students the opportunity to explore the materials, techniques, places, events and images that form the basis for understanding the artist’s position in the modern world. Proximity to New York City and Philadelphia offers access to a faculty of renowned professionals, prestigious museums and galleries, as well as visiting artists and designers.
Students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in Art are enrolled in the School of Arts and Sciences or the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. BA Art students complete 42 credits at Mason Gross School of the Arts. While a portfolio is not required as part of the admissions process for the School of Arts and Sciences or the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, a portfolio review is required to declare the BA major in Art. Students interested in pursuing the BA Art major should submit a portfolio electronically.
Art minors are not required to submit a portfolio. Art minors complete 22 credits at Mason Gross School of the Arts with courses in art history, drawing, visual thinking, and 4D fundamentals.
