February 1, 2025 is the Rutgers priority filing deadline for the 2025-26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Based on your citizenship status, you will need to submit the FAFSA or the New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application (NJAFAA). Understanding Rutgers Admissions

First-year students can apply to any of three locations through the Rutgers Application or Common App. Transfer or returning students must submit their application through the Rutgers Application. For more information on how to apply, go here.

After submitting your application, you’ll be asked to provide additional credentials and documents so we can verify items like GPA, transfer credits, and residency. These required credentials are necessary for our review of your application.

If you submit your application through the Common Application, you can check your eligibility for a fee waiver in the profile section of your Common App. If you meet the criteria for a Common App fee waiver, your application fee will be waived. If you submit your application through the Rutgers Application, fee waiver eligibility can be found here.

Rutgers, The Statue University of New Jersey, maintains test-optional and test-blind policies through 2025. Students who are currently enrolled in high school or graduated from high school less than two years ago, and do not have 12 or more subsequent college credits completed with grades by the application due date and who wish to submit a standardized test score with their application may still do so.

Whether you submit your application through the Common App or the Rutgers Application Portal, you can check your application status here. You must log in using your Rutgers CommunityID to check your application status. If you applied through the Common App, you will receive an email from Rutgers (within 24-48 hours) with instructions about how to set up a CommunityID. Please do not attempt to log in or create an account until you receive that email.

Currently, enrolled Rutgers undergraduate students working toward a degree who wish to apply for admission to another school within the university should submit the online school-to-school transfer application. To submit a school-to-school transfer, the following general requirements must be met: 1) You want to transfer between Camden, Newark, or New Brunswick, or 2) You want to transfer from one of the professional schools to a liberal arts school or from a liberal arts school to a professional school. Yes, we have several joint and accelerated programs across our campuses. At Rutgers–Newark, the 7-year BA/MD joint degree is designed for high school seniors interested in pursuing a medical degree upon completion of their Bachelor’s degree. This program is offered jointly between the School of Arts and Sciences–Newark and the New Jersey Medical School at Rutgers University, providing guaranteed admission to medical school provided minimum requirements are met and maintained. At Rutgers–New Brunswick, the 7-year BA/MD joint degree programs at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) and New Jersey Medical School (NJMS), are designed for rising Rutgers–New Brunswick sophomores interested in pursuing a medical degree upon completion of their Bachelor’s degree.
