First-year students can now apply to Rutgers using the Common App!

First-Year domestic and international students have the option to submit their application to Rutgers through the Common App.
- Early Action: November 1 (non-binding)
- Regular Decision: December 1
Transfer students must apply to Rutgers via the Rutgers Application Portal.

No. Our evaluation process is the same whether you apply using the Common App or the Rutgers Application. Rutgers does not have a preference for which application you use, but you should only apply using one application platform. On August 15, Rutgers will open our CommunityID portal for students using the Common App. You will receive an email at that time with instructions for creating your Rutgers CommunityID. This ID allows you access to the Rutgers Application Portal, where you can monitor the progress of your application. Please do not attempt to log in or create an account until you receive that email.

When applying to Rutgers University through the Common App, please select Rutgers University as your school. Once you have selected Rutgers University as your school, you will be prompted to answer admissions questions for the desired fall term. Under the "Academics" section of the Common App, you will be prompted to select the schools you wish to apply to. You may select the schools from Camden, Newark, and New Brunswick that best suits your interest. Please be sure all information is listed as desired before completing and submitting the application. You may access your Common App by signing in here.

A non-refundable application fee or fee waiver is required. Check your eligibility for a need-based fee waiver in the Profile section of your Common App. If you meet the criteria for a Common App fee waiver, your application fee will be waived.
To receive a Common App fee waiver, you must affirm at least one of the following indicators of economic need:
- I have received or am eligible to receive an ACT or SAT testing fee waiver;
- I am enrolled in or am eligible to participate in the Federal Free or Reduced Price Lunch program (FRPL);
- My annual family income falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines set by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service;
- I am enrolled in a federal, state, or local program that aids students from low-income families (e.g., TRIO programs such as Upward Bound);
- My family receives public assistance;
- I live in federally subsidized public housing, a foster home or am homeless;
- I am a ward of the state or an orphan;
- I can provide a supporting statement from a school official, college access counselor, financial aid officer, or community leader.

Congratulations on applying to Rutgers! Approximately 24-48 hours after submitting your application, you will receive an email with instructions for creating your Rutgers CommunityID. Once you set up your CommunityID, you should:
- Log in to the Rutgers Application Portal to submit the required documents
- Continue to check the Rutgers Application Portal for application updates
