About Entomology

Are you interested in alternative methods to control insect pests such as bed bugs? Or what about ways that we can control diseases that are transmitted by insects? This is the type of research happening in the Department of Entomology at Rutgers, and you can be part of it!

The entomology major is for students interested in insects and related arthropods. You will receive training in a variety of subject areas including agricultural, urban, and forensic entomology. The entomology major will allow you to seek a career in agribusiness, government service, agricultural education and extension, and public health or you will be prepared to be an owner/operator of a pest management enterprise. You can tailor your own coursework to meet your specific interests by selecting classes of interest from several clusters of specific courses. The curriculum of this major is expected to continue evolving as additional experience in the delivery of the curriculum's content is gained, and new areas of emphasis are identified.
